Hi Bassers, made it out on Wassookeag today to guide a guy I met two years ago (Ken) and his uncle (Bill) for a day of smallie fishing. Due to Ken's boat needing some repair work from the day before, we didn't make in on the water until 10:00, and the weather man was calling for heavy rain, wind and hail. But as we got to the landing, the sun was out and a nice west breeze was blowing, making it almost perfect except for those dark, luminis clouds in the distance. So we launched and made a short run to start looking for smallies on their beds, and right off I put us on one, but no one was home. Last week in this area, the water temp was 61, today it was 54-55. I think the males moved in and made beds, but as the water temps kept falling, they moved out. We moved to another area and found more beds, but no bass. Made a move to the mouth of a small stream and Ken wanted to try my Lucky Craft pointer, and with in a few cast, caught a nice 3.12 smallie in 2 fow. We moved down the shore and Ken wanted to put on a top water, so I gave him my Sammy to throw. Well, those dark clouds from a distance were now right over us and of course, it started to rain. It sprinkled at first, but then started to rain harder, so we put on our rain gear and continued to fish. The rain started to slow down and Ken connected with a big, fat 4.10 pound smallie as the Sammy just sat there. Ken was using a spinning rod with 10 lb line which made the fight even better. A few cast later and again Ken's rod loaded up and a 3.14 came to the boat. Now, the rain was really starting to come down, the wind picked up, we heard thunder close by and it started to HAIL!!! We picked up and went back to the landing and decided to wait it out. After about 20 minutes, it cleared off and we went back out. We weren't out for 15 minutes and it started all over again. Heavy rain, wind and hail made us return to the landing where we called it a day with 5 smallies total. It was a tough day due to all the weird weather we had and falling water temps. It was great to see Ken again and to meet Bill, two guys that enjoy bass fishing as much as I do. It was my pleasure to have taken them out today. Hope everyone had a great week-end and thanks for reading....
