I saw something Saturday that should make every fisherman who fished the BAIT tournament more concious of taking proper care of their fish. After we weighed in we returned our fish to the water at the boat dock at Little Hall, in the water at least 30 floaters. 2 fella's in a Ranger trying to revive the fish that showed any signs of life. Lee Hartley and I worked with those two guys for about 30 minutes (sorry fellas did get your names, but thank you so much)and revived at least 10 fish over 3 lbs. We collected the remainder of the fish that didn't make it. Best 5 spots would have been well over 22 lbs. Several other 12-15 lb limits all DOA. Water temp was around 77* at weigh in. Who knows what happened exactly to those fish but you can about bet it was due to poor livewell management. It's getting to be that time of the year men, keep ice in your wells and keep them running all day. Put some quality fish dope in there with them and it works wonders. We had 15lbs that all swam free and most sat in the well all day. It's scenes like the one at Little Hall on Saturday that give us tournament fishermen a bad name. We all know you are going to have a fish that turns up in the well ever so often or a gut hook but most of those fish were dead from poor management. Nevertheless- took 19 lbs to win the tournament 15.5 to get a check i think. We caught fish on every moving bait we threw. Fishhead, funky fishhead, jerkbait, swimbait and fluke. Fish are moving fast out to their summertime homes.
