I get to visit Illinois frequently and spend some time with some great kids there in the state. It's a world of difference from fishing the big lakes here in Alabama, but I took some kids to Shelbyville for the 1st time and we really enjoyed it.

After the big flooding rains, I wasn't sure what to expect but we fished on Wednesday and the lake was in pretty good shape. The kids also swam at the beach, but it was way too cold for me to get wet... (lol). Our water temps in Alabama are ove 80 degrees.

There were very few people at the lake, which surprised me. It's a great facility and the access was very good. I think it's worth spending time enjoying the local resorces with the price of gas so high.

The fishing was good. The kids caught largemouth, smallmouth, bream and crappie. The best tactic was throwing a tiny tube jig on the dam, we caught bass up to 4-pounds on the ultra-lights which was a blast for the kids I had. (All girls and all love to fish). They had no problem catching a lot of fish.

As a long-time angler, it was great to visit a new place that was so nice, and we'll definitly be back. Illinois has done a fine job with Shelbyville.
