  Subject: Lake Champlain, southern, Vermont

Submitted by slink16 #3477 (ip 75.68.209.33)

Date Fished: 8/4/2008
Water Temperature: 75
Water Clarity: 0

Fog was lifting by the time I put in at South Bay, so I only made a few casts before I headed north. Skies would alternate between sunny and cloudy throughout the day with a rain shower or two. Winds came out of the north and would let up at times letting the river portion go to glass. One spinnerbait fish came out of South Bay before the boat wanted to run up the lake. First stop was the bank I'd done well with a crankbait on, but after a few casts I grabbed my buzzbait and went up into the woods. Water is up 1/2' from last trip and only slightly more stained. First cast brought a quick strike followed by another decent fish. I'm thinking this is going to be a good day but I missed several fish and a follow-up bait failed to trigger another bite. I may have caught 10-12 on the buzzbait/crankbait on my way north but they were few and far between. I made the call to run to Ticonderoga around noon but only found out I wasted gas as I had zero strikes in two hours. Just have not put my time in up there the last two years. I also failed to find the mud-plume the chatter said was up that way. Can't find the fish. Can't find the mud. I'm worthless! Ran back south, just staying ahead of a rainshower, to hit on a little weed patch I missed a nice fish on in the morning. Pitched a creaturebait back in there and got the little bugger this time. Started pitching that thing into the woods and picked up several nice fish. This too was short lived, but it felt good to set that hook into a few chunks. The lake went like glass again so I took a short spin to a buzzbait spot I've not fished in awhile. Picked up several more fish here before the sun broke out again and I called it a day. Nothing huge today. A couple fish around 3 and one pushing a little more. Boated near twenty LMB. Goal is to learn how to catch fish again north of Benson.
