Water Clarity: 2-3 feet Fished August 2 and 3, in and around Crown Point NY. After reading Slink's report thought I would give him a helping hand about Ti and north. Saturday was unusual weather cloudy a little wind off and on, but in general one would expect fish would be moving. Wrong, Fish were active but could not get them to take anything but slow moving tubes or worm. The best combo was 3.5 inch tube texas rigged on light line (12 lb TECTECH, the rate of fall was critical)fishing on the 8-10 ft drop with deeper water within 20 yards, where you could find the weed line start to end, mixed with a little eel grass and milfoil and no slime weed facing into the current and the southerly wind. If you could find the right combo then bingo the fish were stacked. it was just a matter of fishing the tube deliberly and slowly. ended up fishing one stretch of weed line both days, about 500 yards long.
But at 5:00 just before the big rain storm hit the LMB in the shallows (reeds) went crazy for frogs and such. Some really good LMB could be caught during that brief time. On Sunday mud had washed into th reeds and messed up that bite but the deeper bite was still great.
40+ LMB and SMB on Sat and 20+ LMB and SMB for 1/2 day on SUN. Largest LMB was 4.1, SMB 4.25. Best 5 on Sat 19 lbs+ and Sun was 17+.
On Sunday, had another fisherman from NH come over and ask for help. He had been fishing all morning, it was about 11AM and he had not caught a fish using CB and SB. Told him the pattern and baits and he fished along the weed line on the next point for the next hour and caught 7 LMB. He came back over and thanked me before heading back down to Lapans Bay for more fishing.
