Well, Hurricane Fay was one sexy storm. Thank your for what you brought. Though it barely made a dent in our lake conditions, anything positive is better than negative. Here in the back of Big Creek, it has rained for two days and is still raining as I write this. We got close to 8 inches here over the past few days. I fished this morning till around lunch and it basically rained the entire trip. It was worth it though. More on that later.

As of this morning, the lake had come up around a foot and a half. The lake was down around 17 3/4 feet a few days ago and as of this morning it was just a drop over 16 feet below full pool. I expect it to come up another 8-12 inches over the next day or so. Though 2.5 feet is not alot, it is much better than it falling another foot.

The COE were out today opening up some ramps as well. I know Big Creek was reopened and I believe Van Pugh was also reopened. I am planning on driving over to Van Pugh and Old Federal tonight to check them out. Little Hall may get reopened as well if the lake comes up a little more. That will give some much needed relief to the ramp situation as we head into Labor Day weekend. That is this weekend you know.

What about the fishing you ask. Well, its pretty good. The rising lake levels has brought a good many of the fish up shallow. I fished this morning with good friend and long time client Steve Cox for 5 hours or so. We worked on Steve's electronics set up mostly but we did get a few casts in. Steve landed a good solid limit of big spotted bass early then culled a few along the day using a buzz bait in the rain. Three or four of the fish were good-uns. Nice to see some big fats mags like the one in the picture again. Steve also added some nice fish on the drop shot as we worked on his electronics set up.

As the lake rises, look for some of the fish to be around the shore. The water temps have dropped into the upper 70's and the water looks great on the main lake. Keep an eye out for floating debris as the lake rises. We should start to see a good many logs and dock floats in the next few days.

The backs of the creeks are pretty much blown out but should stabilize by the end of the weekend for you mud bugs who want to chase some trash fish. I expect the largemouth's are just chomping at the bit over the dirty cool water coming in the backs of all the creeks. Spinnerbait, buzzbait and crankbait will be excellent.

I also wanted to pass along a awesome giveaway going on at the Timberghost store on Hyw 306 and 369. If you have not been by the store in a while, you owe it to yourself to get by there and check it out. Especially you hunters. They have a full bow shop now as well as a gun shop in the store. They have Camo, accessories and everything you need for the upcoming hunting season.

I could not believe the giveaway. For every $25 you spend in the store from now till the first of November, you will be given a raffle ticket. That means you can have multiple entrees no matter what you purchase. Bait, lures, hunting accessories or even snacks. LOL. On November 1st, there will be a drawing and the winner will get a free hunt at the Timberghost Ranch in Iowa. That's right. A FREE Trophy hunt at what is the best hunting ranch in the United States for a Whitetail deer. That is a 7-8 thousand dollar hunt. If you have never see or heard of Timberghost Ranch, you can visit their website below. Make sure to check out the photo section. Also, there is a promo video link so you can see some action there.

Make sure to watch the video. I went on a bow hunt at Timberghost Ranch last year and I can tell you, it is a incredible place and you are treated like a king. The scenery, meals and staff are the best you will ever see. Get by the store and get in the drawing. You do NOT want to miss this opportunity. If you have any questions about the store or drawing, contact me or the store at 770-888-0920

If anyone is interested in a guide trip, drop me a line and lets go. I have some days open in September and fishing is picking up...

September open - 2,9,10,11,15
