Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater Most of the fishing I have done lately on Smith has been at night. I have had a few decent night trips this Summer but for the most part it has been fairly tough.
Today I decided to change things up a bit and try the morning bite. I hit the water right at 6:00 a.m. and had to get back to the dock before 7:00 a.m. I was armed only with a BB, SB, & a worm. Starting with my second cast I landed a small over. I continued working some areas that have generally been productive for me in early fall and landed 1 more over and roughly 4 slots & unders. In addition I had a good quality LM come unbuttoned as I was swinging him in the boat. I wish I would have had him for the pic.
I'm thinking the reason the fishing is tough at night is because they are feeding actively in the morning - who knows??? Anyway, I was really impressed with the fishing this morning and I hope it is a sign of great fall fishing.
