Date Fished: 9/6/2008 I made a trip to Wheeler today, and fished from 11am to 6pm hunting tournament fish. We had to deal with a little rain and a little wind though out the day but we managed to put together a good string of fish for Wheeler. (Between 17-18 pounds). We had two fish well over 4 pounds. We caught most of the keepers in one stretch of river bank. The flats were tough but there are still a few out there. We threw 3/8oz jigs, crank baits and top-water baits. It was a fun day with great fellowship and some good fishing in between. We saw a lot of willow flies hatching today, and there were some big bream feeding up on them today. I did have one of the bigger fish put a big #2 Owner treble hook in my hand today. The fish flopping on the bottom hook while the front hook was deep in my hand. After we got the fish unhooked, I didn’t give pushing the hook through or the fancy little line trick a thought. I ripped it out with a pair of pliers and caught a fish on the very next cast. (After the bleeding stopped anyway). Now that’s a veteran guide for you… 8^) Fishing can be brutal, it’s not for the squeamish. Good luck, great fishing and all Gods grace. And teach a kid to fish…!
