Subject: Tidal Potomac River, Maryland Submitted by Reel Bass Adventures
Date Fished: 10/25/2008 Water temperatures have dropped fifteen degrees over the week and we are finding more bass relating to hard cover along the main river channel and deeper areas of creeks, especially on the outgoing tide. We had success in these areas by using a deep diving crank bait, bouncing it off the wood or rock cover. Any color worked as long as it had chartreuse in it. Grass flats and marsh banks as well as wooded shoreline areas are still holding bass, especially in the afternoon sun and during the higher part of the tide. A slowly twitched hard bait, like a floating Smithwick Rogue, is working well for us. So are Mann’s Baby-1 Minus and soft stick baits in green pumpkin colors. Small marsh tide run offs can collect bass during the outgoing tide and can provide some consistent action when you find the right one. Jerk baits and finesse worms do the trick here.
