Date Fished: 2/20/2012 Fished PM 20th to afternoon 23 Feb. Water temp at start was 59-60 in some what open areas on 20-21. Then warmed to near 70 in protected areas with air temp near 90 on 23rd. Shad some bunched up in big pods, others still in numerous small pods. Buck bass up shallow. Best fish came on a main lake point with a north shore. Largest was 7.5 lb, estimated 10-14 day post spawn based on involution and color of urogenital orifice. Next fish was a 5.5 male, not pink urogenital orifice, long lean fish. Next was a 4.1 # female, just slightly pink, eggs not hydrated, estimate 4-6 weeks from spawning. Rest of fish 12 inches to 3 lbs mix of early pre-spawn females and males. Best lures, unweighted dark colored senko in 2-4 feet in wood on points. Other similar size stick baits didn't work, maybe just happen chance, but if its not broken don't change! Followed by CR rigged dark color soft plastics fished on 6-10 foot or 10-23 foot breaks on points. All bites soft and barely detectable. Braided line helped. One key was slowing down, fishing slow. Lot of white bass on main lake points that didn't get the memo to go upstream and spawn!
