Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater We fished 4 days on lake Francis Case including a BASS Fed Team Open
tournament last week and the fishing was great. The winds were high the
first 2 days and the smallmouth were in very shallow, warm water. Friday we
caught and released 7 fish that went about 18 to 20 pounds in less than 3
ft. of water. On tournament day the winds stopped and the fish went out
towards the main lake points. Teams that adjusted to the movement brought in
over 15lbs of fish (8 total) on the first day of the tournament. On the
second day the pressure was a little bit worse but the winners (Monty & Jami
Fralick) did bring in almost 20lbs. of fish (8 total). The water temp ranged
from 58 to 70 and it was very clear except the days that the wind blew. On
those days the water was muddy approximately 10 to 15 ft from the shoreline
and that is where the big ones were. We caught fish on white/chart. spinner
baits, medium running crank baits and clown jerk baits. Most of the bigger
fish were caught on tubes and flukes when the wind stopped and spinner baits
when the winds blew. All n all it was a great time and I can't wait to get back.
