http://www.inslide.com/guide/ Misinformation abounds in the fishing world and especially on Lake Geneva. Don't believe everything you read or hear. If anyone claims to have figured out Lake Geneva, they are most likely, no-it-alls who don't really know-it-all. Someone could spend a lifetime fishing Lake Geneva and never figure it out! Conditions change hourly. One thing is for sure,......No Lake Geneva Fish have spawned other than Walleye and Trout. The Largemouth are preparing to spawn; however, will not for a couple more weeks. The heavy rains and storms scattered fish, pushing them shallow, not to spawn; but, out of safety, to avoid (survive) the terror of the truly large fish who were disorientated from the severe weather. Now that the weather has stabilized, the Buckets have pushed the Smallies deep (20 + feet) again and things are a little more predictable. The Largemouth are shallow because they are opportunists who favor warmer water. The shallows in the bays warm fastest and fluctuate hourly. The biggest warming factor is the sun. Look for dark shallow bottoms to warm the most by day's end. Dark bottoms, like black cars, heat up the fastest. Areas to heat up fastest will be those bay areas with the most algae bloom as those areas are darkest. The Abbey Lagoon's water temperature in shallow areas rises some 5 - 10 degrees in strong daylight and then drops back during the night hours. Smallmouth are hanging with the Walleye in the 20' to 40' depths. Fish tight to the bottom and work it slow with Crawlers and Leeches on 4 lb test rigged with light shot and a # 6 light-wire Aberdeen-bronze hook. If fishing is slow, add a small in-line #0 silver-Indiana blade. The submerged humps in the Narrows are the best areas to concentrate on. There are some huge fish there. Enough said. One last word on misinformation taken from Big Walleye Are Big For A Reason. There is much misinformation within the fishing community, and at times, it is hard to discern truth from fiction. Case in point: You hear of walleye hanging near the thermocline midday during the summer months. This may be true 10% of the time; however, I personally have caught more walleye during daylight summer months buried in weeds in the 15' depths! In fact a pattern has emerged on Lake Geneva, where as the best times/conditions to find walleye are: High noon, no and/or little cloud cover, heavy weed cover, 15' depths tight to bottom. Drag your crawler on split shot directly through the weeds as you maintain contact with bottom. You will find large concentrations of bigger walleye hiding and waiting for their next meal. So when it comes to misinformation, realize that what works sometimes is not a rule at all times. Moreover, your best source of information is your own experimentation based on common sense and what works in real life situations on your particular body of water.
