Apologize for the lack of posts recently, been fishing all over the state and just have not taken the time to share the fun I encountered this spring. Slowly I'll get back to writing and sharing all results. ..…OK…Mon-5/29; A small group of us Duluth Bass Club anglers out-foxed the Lanier crowd as we held a little impromptu holiday pot (Bass) tourney up near Laurel Park today. Something like 13 boats in all had pretty good fortune up river. About all I can say is: What a blast-off @ 6 AM, and sure wish it would have rained again today as it appeared the sun worshipers were out in full force today making up for yesterday. Most of this activity was well below Thompson Bridge to Gainesville marina area. ....Regardless of the conditions dealt, the crew of anglers assembled today are currently at the height of their game, so needless to say; fish were caught, bragging rights were maintained or re-established. Taking 1st Place honors today was Kevin & Margie Alexander with 2 keepers weighing 5.47 lb. Margie Alexander pretty much stole the show with her Big Bass, a 4.22 lb. LM caught on a GP worm. Looks like Kevin may be considering jockeying partners come fall if Margie keeps up this pace. Grabbing the 2nd place pedestal today was Chuck Jolly with 2 good keepers weighing 3.93 lb. Down the line and finishing 3rd was Will Collins with 3 keepers weighing 3.49 lb. 4th was Rick Cotten & Eric Holmes with 2 keepers weighing 3.29 lb. 5th was Chuck Pollack with 2 keepers weighing 2.57 lb. 6th was Bo Waldrip with 1 good spot weighing 2.33 lb. 7th was Joe Y. with 2 weighing 2.22 lb. 8th was Jay Donohue with 2 weighing 2.11 lb. 9th was Vaughn K. with 1 keeper weighing 1.75 lb. 10th was Steve McAdams and his wife with 1 keeper weighing 1.31 lb. 11th was Carl & Mark Fritz with 1 keeper weighing 1.05 lb., Dragging up the rear-bottom today since his partner (James) was unavailable to carry the torch, Gene Hacker only brought in one little bitsy one weighing 0.99 lb. Worms accounted for many of the keepers, brush piles from 1 ft of water to 25 ft. - was the magic depth. Several crankbait keepers were caught today, A couple creepy crawlers keepers were also noted at the scales.. ..Top-Water bite seemed short lived today with the blue-bird skies and the sun quickly getting up over the tree-tops. The front that moved thru Sunday must have lingered as the bite was slow. Quite a few short fish were reportedly caught on top early. A couple guys noted catching a few fish on flukes & trick worms early. Quite a few keepers were caught in the last hour of fishing. Getting off the water @ noonish makes for short fishing time, but smart planning, and that put us all home in time for all afternoon of family planned activities and some good cookouts....Joe Yurina
