Date Fished: 6/23/2000
Water Temperature: 86
Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

The lake is down to 11.83 feet now and it is getting harder to navigate a lot of areas. Be sure to watch areas such as the spoil islands in front of Clewiston towards the water tower, and the reef which extends from the Iron Cross to Pahokee Airport. These rocky shoals are just below the water or just showing above the water line. A little inconvenience is a small price to pay while we wait for the grass to grow back in the lake. The rewards will be great down the road. The bass have definitely began a strong movement towards the outer edges of the grass and what few reeds remain. I have had reports of some very good fishing on the Shoal between the 1st and 4th poles out away from the grass . Long casts will become more important as the water starts to clean. Be very careful in running and setting down your boat in this area. There are a lot of rocks on the shoal that people have forgot about after many years of high water. You may have to idle out towards open water a good ways to get back on plane without hitting bottom also. Primary lures right now are NijaSpin spinner bait, Spro crankbait, and some on a Baby Bacon Rind and ten inch worm. The fish will respond better to a Baby Bacon Rind or worm when the wind isn't blowing, the local favorite is the JuneBug Color by Gambler .Early morning and late evening are the best bet right now. Be sure to keep an eye on the weather for thunderstorms that crop up quickly and produce a tremendous amount of lightning. As the water warms from the sun, the bait gets a lot more active and so do the bass. The wind also pushes the dirty water in from the main lake into what small grass beds there are left. Topwater action starting to get HOT now. It should be great for the next few weeks if the wind lets the water stay clean. Buzz bait, Flappin Shads and a Chug Bug are great lures for this action. I have had some good luck on the Spro P Minnow and HighRoller Lures also. There were a few fish caught pitching plastic crawdads to the reeds around King's Bar this past week. I also had a report that there is a little clean water around the West Wall and East Wall with some activity there. http://www.waltreynolds.com
