I have not had much experience fishing seriously. The past two months I've been able to hook one or two fish (bass and cats) every weekend. Around the first of May I put my boat in the water for the first time this year. About 7 a.m. on Sunday morning I picked up one 13" Bass on Lick Creek using a purple worm with an orange tail at the top of a rock ledge some 20 ft off the bank. The next weekend I hooked a nice sized cat up in a narrow slough in shallow water on Lick creek around 9 a.m. using night crawlers. That afternoon about 2 p.m. I fished the second slough up from the dam across from the boat launch while I waited for my daughter to make it up to the lake. I tied up to a tree and put out two lines one with a shinner and another I rigged up with two hooks about 6 inches apart. The lower hook I used a nightcrawler and the upper I used a small shinner. On the single hook I got another nice sized cat and on the other rod I got a little 10 inch bass just a few minutes later. I was fishing in probably 3 to five ft of water up the steep banks of the slough. A couple of miles up the main drag I fished the slough in front of our place and got the twin brother of the Kamakazie bass I had got on lick creek. This time it was about 3 p.m. with a little wind, shallow water over some old pine limbs I had put in the water. I was using an OLD OLD OLD Rebel from my tackle box I had some 25 or 30 years ago. So, don't throw away your old lures. I've been on the water EVERY Saturday night and all day Sunday for the past 6 or 8 weeks and until the last two weeks I always got enough excitement to keep me going back. The last two weeks I've hardly seen a fish jump and haven't gotten even a strike. I've fished live bait, jigs, rigs, deep, shallow, points, sloughs. Done every damn thing except knock them in the head and drag them in. The traffic just drove them away I guess. Looks like I'll have to go to the river to get a bite.
