Claim West Virginia Points Championship

06/23/2001– Kanawha River, St.Albans, WV…The 5th. Regional Qualifier and Division Points Championship kicked off at 6:00 am Saturday, June 23rd., with 10 teams in search of bass, in this. the final tournament of the year in the West Virginia Division The weather was perfect, however, fishing wasn’t what it should have been, as only one five fish limit was brought to the scales.With only 21 fish weighed, total net weight for the tournament was 33.76 lbs. Again, all fish were released alive.
With a close points championship race between the teams of Tom and JD Douglas and Larry Taylor and Joe Decker,in the end " TEAM MARCO " prevailed, with an outstanding limit of 5 bass weighing, 13.39 pounds. This limit included both big fish of the event, weighing; 3.92 and 2.67 lbs. earning Larry and Joe, 1st,place and $536.00; both big fish awards, worth $100.00; the WV Division Points Championship Title and pot; and an automatic, no fee, berth in the Fishers Of Men National Championship Tournament to be held in Oct. They have a chance of winning 2 fully rigged 2002 Triton Boats,also, should they choose to fish the East Region Championship at Lake Hartwell GA, in Sept.
The team of Lyle Atkins and Kent Stanley, brought in 4 bass, finishing 2nd, earning $264.00 3rd. Place: Ken Hackworth and Brian Blankenship; 4th. place: Tom and JD Douglas; 5th. place: Ross Kirk and Matt Cochran; 6th. place tie: Ricky Vincent and Jonathan Evans; and Earl Ball; 7th.place; Tom Rayburn and Russell Hill; 8th. place tie: Alan and Todd Starks and El Brown and Dennis Mullins
