Decided for a change of scenery this am. Had a tough time finding the fish today at first light (530am). I got on the lake well before sunup and started my normal fish finding routine. Started with my usual search baits near the dam in the back of a cove with wood structure nada, rocks nada, windblown points nada, mainlake wood nada, mainlake rocks nada?? Cranked up to mid lake started in the back of a major cove on the North Side and worked my way out fishing the available cover and a few islands nada not squat!!! Cranked up again went further down the lake and did the routine and not even a shad flicker to be seen the whole morning. Its 11am and not even a hint of a fish. I finally went way up the river and worked my way out and I finally ended up with 13 fish with 6 keepers and I left them hitting as I had a job fair to attend. I lost 2 MAGNUM 4lb spots that I don't have an excuse for??? I am definintely going to swap out the factory trebles with Gammies for the next trip. My biggest spot that I acutally caught was just over 3lbs and my best 5 probably went just shy of 10lbs, but I should have had over 15lbs despite the 2 big spots tearing off. All of the fish were caught on a hard jerkbait worked very fast on a spinning outfit. The fish were very scattered and most of the fish seemed to be in the vicinity of the shad that I marked on my graph in the upper river part of the lake. The majority of the fish were right on the bank and hammering hard jerkbaits. The key was to cover lots of water as they were scattered, so I put the T Motor on high and worked my way out to the main lake. Seems like Carters has quite a bit better fish quality than Allatoona by a longshot. All in all I thought it was a worthwhile trip and talk about zero boats on the water!!! Gotta love those River Spots!! Blue Ridge just might be next. I need a big fat smallie fix real bad!! :)
