You heard me right, I fished Mountain Creek this morning. Although there is a ban on retaining any fish from this lake because of the level of contaminants found, you can still fish it. I've wanted to give the lake a try for along time since it was a power plant lake, but was hesitant about leaving my truck at the ramp alone. I met another guy on the lake (the only other boat I've ever seen on it), and he said he has never had a problem.

The ramp is very shallow. I had to back in so far, that my truck was about 10 feet in the water. It was concrete all the way back, so it was just inconvenient to wade to the boat and back. Now for the fishing report.

I didn't get on the water till about 8:30am, and spent probably 1 hour driving around, getting a lay of the lake. The south side past the bridge is way to shallow.(less than 2 feet) There is water up to 15 feet deep over by the dam. I started out fishing a Carolina rig with no luck on a couple of ledges over by the intake area. I then started to throw a rat-l-trap and a stickbait around shoreline reeds and grass and immediately started catching fish. I caught 5 bass in a matter of 15 minutes. All of these fish were very small. While I was fishing, there were two schools of sandbass that started busting shad on the surface. I caught about 50 of them in no time, but they were all less than 8 inches or so. I then started to fish some of the man made cover around the Joint Reserve Base. I caught a 3 lb'er next to the boat house by the base. I caught it on a TR sour grape lizard. Very nice, healthy fish. I then went back over to the point just out from the discharge area, and couldn't keep the dinky sand bass off my hook long enough to bass fish. Had a good time, just not many quality fish. Left the lake by 2pm.

Has anyone else fished this lake lately or in the past and have some info to share or tips for the lake? Is it anyone elses experience that all the fish in the lake are small, or is there just so many small ones that it's hard to keep the bait out of their mouth long enough to catch decent size fish? Any more info will be appreciated.

Take care all, and have a great day.
