Date Fished: 5/30/2002
Water Temperature: 88
Water Clarity: 6 inches

Surface temperatures soared yesterday as the wind laid down and the sun blazed in a sky that was for the most part devoid of clouds. At 2:00 it felt as if the air temperature was in the high nineties. It certainly was in stark contrast to the almost jacket weather we had when we made our run to the Farm in the morning.

As I have been saying, the fish have moved to the canal edges and yesterday was no exception. The bait of choice was a bit specific in that not just any worm worked well on a C-rig. The bass showed a definite preference to long worms, (10" junebug) over most other plastics. We did get a few on rattletraps, and even one or two on spinner baits, but definitely it was the big worms that were best.

The north end of the N/S ditches seem to be holder the better fish and as usual the east side of the ditches seem to be holding more fish. They are spread along the length of the ditches and not bunched.

On the south end of the middle N/S ditch we did see some shad getting busted but it was not the melee that we are looking for. We happened to be right there and a combination of several baits didn't produce as much as one hit.

All in all I would have to say conditions are pretty good and things are laid out for that lunker fish. The big fish this trip was just over 8.5 pounds on the Boga Grip but unfortunately the batteries were dead in the camera so no picture. I know of over 30 bass caught out there yesterday and that ain't so bad for a day following the full moon, with high temperatures, and bluebird skies overhead. Good electronics, a sharp eye, Carolina rigs, and good casts will all contribute to make a great day for you.

See you out there.
