Stay on Lake Apache, on a Houseboat for 3 days , july 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Could only fish mornings and evenings. We caught a few each day on top, in the mornings. poppers and buzzes.My nephew caught a 5lb smallmouth on a blue and white suspending deep diver. we also caught some with a t-rigged worm and westy worms( black w/yellow stripe).That was monday and tuesday. On Wednesday ,in the morning ,it was cloudy and the wind was finally calm.I can't see how you guys fish deep with the wind blowing and it always seem to blow.But the fish were on and we caught them on ever point we came to ( from 4:30 am to 7:00 am. then we went to the rock piles on the left near the end of the lake( just past hermits cave). the fish schooled there till 10:00 am . there were small fish , but every once in a while a big school of 2, 3 and 4 pounders would come up. we had a ball. we used poppers , sammys, flukes, grubs, and crankbaits. we caught smallmouth and largemouths ( are there spotted bass on this lake? some of them looks like they were).On the way to hook up the houseboat I had to take the bass boat loose , I was sitting in the shade of a vertical wall. so I threw a small white grub and let it sink and a bass grabbed it it weighed almost 6lbs. It was a good last fish for my vacation. Hope some of this helps. good fishing
