  Subject: Highland Lake, Connecticut

Submitted by Pski's Angling Adventures (ip 192.249.47.9)

Date Fished: 8/7/2002
Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater

Did Highland last evening with my partner "Evil Mike" from 6:15 PM to 9:15PM. Started out in second bay on the west shore along the "ledges". Mike was throwing the green pumpkin Brush Hog while I decided to attack the fish with a crank bait. Half way down the rock ledges I connected with an apx 4.5 lb largemouth throwing an Excalibur Fat Free Shad. The fish came from a small patch of milfoil next to the rocks. We hit another spot in third bay that was just a large weed flat bordering deep water. Mike continued with the Brush Hog while I threw a floating Rat-L-Trap and a Manns Mid Minus-1. Nothing in this spot and the sun is setting. We moved to the first/second bay narrows and hit the weed bed there with jigs. Nothing but a couple of sunnie bites. As darkness fell along the east shore I began throwing a Cordell Big O, the original "alphabet" bait, around the docks and gravel. Mike, still throwing the Brush Hog was in "Challenge Mode". This is his version of precision casting to put a bait where few baits ever go. A great pitch between the floats of a dock soon had a 5 pound largemouth beside the boat. While he was playing his fish, from the opposite side of the dock, I hooked up with a 13" largemouth on the crankbait. We worked southward along the bank towards Perch Rock and I ended up getting another 13" bass and one about 2.5 pounds. Crankbaits at night, and the fish were smacking them. As short after work trip with 5 keepers and 2 being quality fish was rather pleasent.
