I have found a great little gold mine here in Idaho in the way of a little pond-slew that has some monster l.m. bass (lots of 2 to 5#ers) in it. The pond is very, very shallow' with about 5' at the deepest point. Even though it's shallow the water temp. is very cold around 55 deg. I would say now. It also has very little cover of any kind on most of the pond. It has a very small creek in & out & I found one small spring at one side that is about maybe 6 ft deep & about 5' around. The only cover is at on end it has a large surface weed bed in about 3' of water & in one spot in the middle in 5' of water has a small sunken weed bed thats is like a underwater forest. Both hold bass but the small one has better mid-day fishing while the surface weeds has lots of action early morning & as the sun goes down. Most of the pond is 2' to 3' deep & has a short weed bed on the bottom that hold no fish at all. The only fish I've seen in it are yellow perch & l.m. bass so far. My question is this, that could I put in that deeper water (5' sandy muddy bottom, no weeds) to make some cover for the fish & improve the fishery. I was thinking of some brush piles or would some 55 gal. barrels with both ends cut out be better. Any info on what works & what not to do would be very helpful. PS. If there is any 1 from N. Idaho (Sandpoint area) that would like to wet a line with me, I'm lookin for a bass fishing buddy, as most of the time I end up fishing alone. I'm a catch & release fisherman mainly. Tnx Rick
