Date Fished: 3/11/2003
Water Temperature: 55+
Water Clarity: 0

Fished La Cygne today. The plant was generating power and the water flowing from the discharge was warm (65-70 Degrees!) I was able to catch two dinks on a crankbait around noon and a 2lb Largemouth later in the afternoon. The water has come up considerably in the last two weeks as the lake was down for most of December, January and February. I also ventured up in the river and fished a shad colored jerkbait along the East shore of the mouth of the river. Again, I picked up one short Bass there. The weather was cold and overcast with periods of showers.

I fished the point across from the hot water discharge and all of the West Bank North into large cove with finesse bait, jerk bait and a rattle trap without so much as a hit.

I am struggling to understand the movements of bass on La Cygne, they seem to hit better in cold, overcast conditons yet they clam up when the weather gets nice. I also realize that the hot water being discharged into the lake MUST have an influence on where they congregate and when they eat. Water temperatures like the ones I encountered (50's and 60's in most of the main lake) would tend to influence most bass to become active and feed.

I hope that anyone with experience fishing either La Cygne or Wolf Creek, Montrose (or any other power plant lake for that matter) would be kind to share some insight with me. I truly enjoy fishing these warm lakes in the winter and I have experienced terrific days, but a good grasp of fish behavior eludes me! Tight lines everyone!
