Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

Fished the McDonalds Tournament with my son last weekend. Got lucky the first hour and nailed a 6.83 on a bandit crankbait. We were working the shoreline of a minor point near a spawning cove (Mill Creek area). After weighing in, we headed out to Needmore where at least 50 other boats were working the grassbeds. We caught a few small ones on c-rigs but nothing to write home about. People keep telling us this is where the big fish live (main lake grass points)but whenever we head out there, no one answers the door. Day 2 we started back at our Honey Hole and my son lost a 6++ at the boat using a Yozari topwater. Loaded up on small keeper fish however. The rest of the day we hit coves north of Powell Park and a couple of major grass beds. Again the traffic was extremely heavy and the fish were wary. Day 3 was a challenge as the fish were no longer in our hot spot and I snapped off a blade of my trolling motor first hour. For some reason, I decided to try a few lilly pad areas back in the shallow flats and was pleasantly surprised. Started catching 2-lbers with white spinner baits and small trailers. We spent the day back there virtually by ourselves and caught 10 to 15 fish but just couldn't find the big ones as is to be expected. Would have killed for at least a little breeze that last day, but all in all, one of our most productive and fun tournaments.
