I didn't really want to go fishing today (no clouds, bluebird sky, north wind) but the wife had her annual garden party at the house and If I hung around I would have been busy playing valet and waiter. So, I launched on the Causeway at 9AM and headed for the creeks to get out of the wind. Since I have little experience with the Senko I decided to spend the day experimenting with them. Caught several small fish by noon and lost two bags of Senko to crabs. They love 'em. Moved out to the river (Tensaw) found the small bass eating up the red shad worm. I don't know how many bass I caught but I know I will have to make a WalMart run soon to buy more FLW worms. About 2PM as I decided it was safe to head home, the wind let up so I decided to try the grass lines nearer the Causeway on the way back to the landing. On the first grassline I caught four about 2 pounds on a spinnerbait. I moved to another grassline and started missing fish so swithced to Senko and red shad worms.Caught six more fish but they were small, including two red fish. Obviously the better fish are in the rivers where visibliity is improving daily.. With little rain lately look for the water to clear even more as the salt water moves up from the Gulf which will also bring more shrimp, red fish, speckled trout (weakfish) and flounder. This truly is an amazing fishery we have here in South Alabama. I just wish the state Conservation Department would do more to protect and improve it.
