Subject: Spectacle Lake, Wisconsin

Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater Warm weather, water clear (could see bottom down to ~8'), very windy, lake down ~1-2'. Fished Spectacle Lake each day 9/7/03 to 9/12/03, mostly in AM from a canoe. Caught many nice smallmouths, 12-18"; one was over 3# and tailwalked a lot. What a rush!! Most were caught on Bass Magnet crank baits. On Wednesday, 9/10, caught the only three largemouths in deeper open water, also on same crankbaits. The largest was 5#, the other two were 2-3#. They all hit and fought hard. Had another one hooked on a red-flaked tube, but never got her to the boat. Stripped line three times and broke line when dove deep at boat. It was a hefty fish. Suspect it was largemouth as they stayed down and every smallmouth came to surface right away. Prelim report said bass fishing was off some but all fish were decent fish. Will go again in the future.
