Young Angler Earns Lake Fork Bragging Rights

Lake Fork Texas: Sunday, February 8, 2004 turned out to be a special day for 9 yr. old Tyler Brackenridge of Gun Barrel City, Texas as the youngster accompanied his Dad and uncle to Lake Fork to brave the cold weather and try their luck on a fishing trip to this nearby reservoir. According to his dad, Kenneth Brackenridge and his uncle Joe, young Tyler owes a special thank you to some family friends (Gary and Margaret Harrison) also from Gun Barrel City. The Harrisons had loaned them their boat to try for some early season Lake Fork bass fishing and Tyler was rewarded by catching not only the largest Bass of his young fishing career...but also having the thrill of releasing the big female to complete her spawning cycle and keep the legend of Lake Fork alive.

On a day when the fishing was slow in Little Caney Creek, Tyler earned bragging rights for the day by successfuly catching a large Pre-spawn female, and expertly bringing her to the boat where proud Dad Kenneth netted the trophy fish for him. Young Tyler, who is no stranger to Bass Fishing, fooled the large female on a Zoom Baby Brush Hog in 19 ft. of water and was able to land her after a few anxious moments for his Dad and Uncle once they realized how big she was. Even for accomplished anglers, this is no easy task considering the many stumps and underwater obstructions that Lake Fork is noted for. According to his Dad, however, Tyler handled it like a Pro. After weighing the large fish and having his picture made with his trophy, young Tyler was able to record a second memorable event in his life by releasing the big fish back into Lake Fork (which was also recorded on film). Her vital statistics were 24 1/2 Length, 19 1/4 inch girth, and official weight on registered scales was just under 10 lbs at 9.92 (Courtesy of Star Mart Chevron on Hwy 515). Tyler's dad, Kenneth is already thinking about having a replica made and it is likely that his fish will provide many fond memories for years to come for this lucky young angler.
