I have a WideEye on my boat and am considering upgrade to newer model. The WideEye has a Shoot thru hull tansducer. Is that transducer compatible with any of the newer Hummindird units?

New Humminbirds with Wide Eye Transducer from Greg Walters (207.230.75.10)  5/25/2004 8:51:00 AM
 Canuck,

The old Wide Eye’s used a dual-beam transducer that had two elements inside of them. One was a 200 kHz element and the other a 455 kHz element. The 200 kHz element produces a 16 degree cone angle (at –10db). The Matrix and FishFinder units can use the 200 kHz portion of this transducer, however they were designed to work with a transducer with a 20 degree cone angle. If you use your Wide Eye transducer with one of these newer units, you will not be able to use the transducer beams that are produced from a different frequency (83 kHz or 455 kHz). In addition, since the Wide Eye transducer has a smaller cone angle, the new unit will be looking at a smaller area of the water column and may have problems showing a very shallow depth reading.

Any of the newer Humminbird units can use the Wide Eye transducer (with the exceptions noted above) as they share the same shaped transducer plug. In addition, you should be able to use the same power cable and unit mount (after switching to the new style connector holder).
