Getting ready for may tripletail, Read an article in Florida Sportsman about tripletails, Flies to use, where to look.. What kind of leader set up would be best? I usually fish a nine foot tapered leader by SA. Do I need a bite tippet? Are their gil plates sharp? If so how heavy and what is the simplest way to attach? Please donot reccomend a bimmini twist, I am trying to learn that knot but my loop is always twisted when I finish. Is it really worth the trouble to learn to tie? If anyone has any info on Ga tripletail please lot me know.

Use a clear Intermediate if possible. 9 ft leader is fine. I like to use fluorocarbon all through the leader. Say with a 9 or 10wt, you would start with 40lb, then so on. Use at least 30lb fluoro as a shock (bite) leader. If the fish are big and bullish and near big structure, then go to 40lb.
crab patterns, shrimp patterns, kwan flies, decievers and synthetic enrico type baitfish / pinfish patterns work good. May also use heavy weighted clousers.
I like to use albrights or bloodknots to attach the tippet to the leader. Use a loop knot to attach the fly to the leader.
Good luck,

You really do not have to worry about the fish itself cutting you off. You do have to worry about the tripltail dragging your line around barnacle encrusted pilings. Use a 40 pound test leader. As for knots, I stick with the triple surgeons knot. I can tie about fifty of those in the same space as it takes me to tie one bimini twist. Chartreuse deceivers work great(3 inches). Good luck!!!
