SUBJECT: # 2774: Fly fishing New Orleans

I will be in New orleans on Feb 14th-19th I will have the opportunity to fish one or two of the days. Is there anything near or in New Orleans as far as flyfishing for reds or trout in february. any help is appreciated. I will not have access to a boat. I may do the guide thing, but I was hoping to DIY. Thx

Trouts and reds should be available in Feb. Anywhere you can access Lake Ponchartrain on the southern shore may work, or drive out Hwy. 90 past Bayou Savage to the mouth of the lake at the Rigolets bridge. Green and white Clousers on a sink tip line are standard rigs on the long rod. For the best advice check with some of the fly shops on Veterans Hwy. Hope this helps.

Call Danny Ayo. He is a guide out of Houma. Fished with him two days last september and saw more Redfish and Drum over 10lbs on a TERRIBLE (bad weather) day, than on a GREAT day here in Texas.www.flyfishlouisiana.com

We used Bourgeious Fly Fishing Charters after a recommendation from the guy at the Ovis shop in Tyler, Texas, they are New Orleans' only Orvis-endorsed fishing guide service. the guy is funnier than hell and knows where the red fish are.http://www.neworelansfishing.com/
