No doubt that the repugs don't know the difference between voter fraud and election fraud. Requiring a photo ID portends to prevent voter fraud which is a complete non-issue for many practical reasons.
The real threat to our democracy is the election fraud that happened in '00 and again in '04. Election fraud involves tampering with the vote tally, eliminating legitimate voters from the voter rolls, etc while voter fraud is when people who are not eligible to vote, vote or a person votes twice, etc. If your name is not on the voter roll, you are given a provisional ballot which, more often than not isn't counted anyway making it a mute point. There is virtually no chance that voter fraud could determine the outcome of a national election.
llb, your question is cynical in the extreme. How many older couples are on welfare where either the husband or wife cashes the check? The spouse may be too infirm to want to hassle with getting the photo ID so they have just been disinfranchised by this new law even though they will be subjected to the outcome of the vote.
The republicans can never win on the issues, so the only way the party can remain viable is to either politically destroy their opponent (swift boating) or to commit election fraud.
can you believe that the outcome of our elections are now given to us by a private vendor?? That's outrageous! What happened to the days when our aunts and grandmothers counted the votes in the church basement? Carol would count a stack of ballots, innitial it and pass it over to Becky and she would count it and innitial it, and so on...
Now the software for the electronic voting machines is "propriatery" so even the government can't verify its legitimacy. No paper trail...
But if you are a repug, you see no problem with that arrangement whatsoever. A win by any means, is still a win. (no honor!)
I was amazed at how easy it was for all you stalwarts states rights advocates to submit to the ussc in the '00 election. You guys rolled like a bunch of spineless worms!
