SUBJECT: it is sort of sad that the Economy is not the main focus this summer

Submitted by RJR from MISSOURI on

it sure isn't looking good. Wall Street keeps plunging, another california town declares bankruptcy, and more cities to follow suit. It is really sad that the main issue keeps getting swept under the rug. IT IS THE ECONOMY STUPID.

  1. BamaBassHunter #12418 from ALABAMA says wonder how many
Are made up of dems or republicans / Would be intresting to see is it just poor judgement in city and county govt's or is there politcal beliefs ?

  2. mac (Doyle McEwen) (71.139.167.169) from CALIFORNIA says But RJR,
the private sector is doing just fine..Ask President Obama..Major, Brad, PJ and numerous others agree with him..He did it with all of the Tarp funds and such the Republicans voted in because President Bush wanted them..So therefore the entire scenario is the fault of President Bush..How soon we forget..It doesn't matter how much money was wasted on President Obama's pet "green projects" and all of the "shovel ready jobs" he didn't back..I mean after all, the rate of growth of run away spending has been reined in by President Obama..President Obama has the economy under control, of course he hasn't exactly found where the economy is, but he is sure everything is going according to plan..Who made the plan, we are not too sure about or even what the plan entails..

    mac

  3. MikeF from FLORIDA says major deflection
There is a concerted effort not to discuss the economy because of the abject failure of obama's "plan" to jump-start a recovery.

his plan didn't work because his plan doesn't work.

  4. Ereich (74.75.15.134) from MAINE says It is
incompetence stupid! To highlight the economy is to highlight his incompetence. The media can't have that. It is fully vested.

Romney need to focus not on the economy but on the incompetence and the economic result of that incompetence.

  5. Rusticus from MASSACHUSETTS says with
corporate profits as high as they've ever been, tax rates as low as they've ever been, what would you propose the President do to create jobs?

Oh, and remember, you've all screamed that the government cannot create jobs.

Face it, the free market/capitalist system has dropped the United States of America like a hot rock while moving to countries overseas where the citizens have no clue as to what they are in for.

Again, demand is the only thing that creates jobs, and with wages being lowered, credit being denied, and job uncertainty a fact of life, the party here is over.

Yes, you are right Ereich, let's focus on the job creation plans of rmoney. What do they entail aside from tax cuts for the wealthiest among us?

  6. Harumph #11038 from OHIO says Hey Rectalus
Maybe if Ovomitus didn't spend his first three years developing the largest tax increase in the history of this nation we would all be better off.

    You libs crack me up.

  7. MikeF from FLORIDA says let's play a little game called connect the dots
First dot, we compete in a world economy

Second dot, liberals increase the cost of doing business

    Third dot, we import energy

Fourth dot, we have a massive trade imbalance

Fifth dot, we have devalued our currency

Sixth dot, we have a massive deficit

Seventh dot, our corporate tax rate is oppressive

Eight dot, massive healthcare cost increases loom on the horizon

Ninth dot, EPA regulations are greatly increasing domestic energy cost

    Tenth dot, uncertainty

And a massive dot, socialist policies have left an untenable burden of entitlements on most world governments sucking the life blood out of the world economy. Governments on all levels are drowning in the cost of supporting people who should be supporting themselves plus paying unrealistic retirement benefits.

obama has killed jobs by moving toward more and bigger entitlements. socialism always fails because socialism fosters dependence.

There are your dots and over half of America is too f*cking stupid to understand why they're connected.

  8. GITTHENET from NORTH CAROLINA says Face it, the free market/capitalist system has dropped the United States of America like a hot rock while moving to countries overseas where the citizens have no clue as to what they are in for.
Yeah, excellent point there rusti.... I'm sure the majority of those chinese laborers would much rather be back in the rice fields... whatcha think.

Good gawd, we have another corporate hating Bradiot gracing us....

    Here's another dot...

1- what do you do with your money when you're trying to save? Do you move it to the bank with the highest return?

Connect those dots the corporate tax rate....

  9. JacKFish56 (205.188.116.16) from NEW JERSEY says Why the Economy fell off the radar
Because the "liberal media". This is the "4th summer of recovery". If this was a republican administration with these economic numbers, there would be a 24/7 news cycle on the Economy. The Liberal Media have "circle the wagons" around BHO. No bad press stories at any cost.

    ABO

  10. PJzaBruin (74.100.114.169) from CALIFORNIA says 1/20/2009 -- djia: 7949
    S&P 500 - 805 NASDAQ - 1441 Russel 2000 -- 434

  11. MikeF from FLORIDA says and left alone it would have recovered fully by early 2011
And be growing at an annualized rate of 5%. obama pissed away almost $6T and managed to drag out a recession at the same time. he couldn't have done worse if he tried.

  12. PJzaBruin (74.100.114.169) from CALIFORNIA says Or dropped by another 5000 points to 3000
One wild-assed speculation being as good as another.

  13. MikeF from FLORIDA says it would have been worse, it would have been worse, it would have been worse
If you say it a thousand times it still sounds whiney. Left alone a free market economy aways recovers, whine all you want but that's just the simple truth.

  14. PJzaBruin (74.100.114.169) from CALIFORNIA says it would have been better, it would have been better, it would have been better
it's a broken record with no basis in reality.

"Left alone, a free market economy always recovers"... eventually. But human death and suffering isn't covered by that recovery.

    7/13/12 change since 1/20/09

    DJIA: 12,777 +4,828 (+61%)

    S&P 500: 1,357 + 552 (+68%)

    NASDAQ: 2,908 +1,467 (+102%)

    RUSSELL 2000: 801 + 367 (+85%)

Those numbers and the numbers from January 20, 2009 are facts. Everything else is just speculation.

  15. MikeF from FLORIDA says very original, does your great wit impress third graders
Still a simple fact whether you admit it or not. This recession has been drug out and we're $6T deeper in debt. Nothing would have worked better and cost way less. And there would have been less suffering, besides most of the stimulus went to the very rich and connected how much were they suffering?

  16. Ereich (74.75.15.134) from MAINE says Companies balance sheets didn't bring their stocks down in a few weeks
fear did. The Dow now is lower than it was in May of 2008. If this is your measure 5 trillion in debt for what?

  17. RJR from MISSOURI says why do you guys even respond to pj?
he obviously can't get online unless he is at his Califruity supplied PC. No smart phone, laptop that he can take with him, or home PC. Heck, he probably can't afford new underwear.

  18. MikeF from FLORIDA says because I like to see him pout
    lol

  19. Ereich (74.75.15.134) from MAINE says I like to watch PJ twist and cavort
trying to defend the indefensible. He is smart enough to know it deep down but he is all in, stuck on stupid.

  20. Rusticus from MASSACHUSETTS says Eriech
the Dow is now higher than it was in June, July & August of 2008.

Did you have a point in that pointless post?

What do you think of the LIBOR problem,Barclay bank and its relationship to the banking system of the United States? Does it appear the "economy" is just a smoke and mirror show for the average person? Or do you believe the banks actually create something aside from extreme wealth for the fortunate few?

  21. PJzaBruin (74.100.114.169) from CALIFORNIA says Rusti, no point asking them what they think
At least, not until Fox "News" addresses the issue, and tells them what to think.

They can't deal with facts. Just look at the responses above for proof of that.

  22. Ereich (74.75.15.134) from MAINE says Fox news has gone too liberal for me
Its not totally in the tank but close.

  23. Rusticus from MASSACHUSETTS says so that's your final answer?
    n/t.

  24. PJzaBruin (74.100.114.169) from CALIFORNIA says BTW, RJ, I'm just wondering...
how do I get to my "Califruity supplied PC" at this hour on a Sunday evening? Especially during the summer, when school is out of session?

Do you really use company-provided computers, your smartphone, your laptop, and another home PC to access this board? If so, perhaps you need a week like I recently had where there is no phone coverage, camping where there is no wi-fi access.

The sights, sounds, and smells of a place like Yosemite can be really relaxing.

  25. PJzaBruin (74.100.114.169) from CALIFORNIA says Still wondering, RJ
Btw, 6 months after they laid off me and the ad director, Bass & Walleye Boats folded. We kept it profitable for a few years, but without us... Well, that was the end of that.

Working a magazine that was monthly part of the year and bi-monthly the rest of the year was quite a challenge, and vendor issues did create a few disgruntled old coots (apparently you among them), but it was great while it lasted.

  26. PJzaBruin (74.100.114.169) from CALIFORNIA says knock knock knock... RJ? knock knock knock... RJ? knock knock knock... RJ?
