Looking for Help, I just bought a new tr20 with a mercury 225 efi. I have a 4 blade trophy prop, 6" jackplate and a 25 pitch. The boat chime walks pretty bad around 60 mph. any helpful advice would be great.
I used to have the same rig as yourself but with a 225 Opti instead. You did not mention what height your jackplate is.
I had my rig at 5 1-2 in above transom and did not get chine walk until about 72-73 on GPS. Your spining the right prop. You also didnt mention your RPM's at WOT they should be around 5900 ( max on an EFI is 6000 I think). If your not getting that type of RPM than you jackplate is too low for sure.
That boat should go like snot..You should get at least 75 to 78 on GPS ( 1 person, tournament load, 1/2 tank of gas)
good luck

I believe Marc is leading you on the right path with Jackplate height. Tritons like the motor high on the Transom. I have a '04 Tr-20w/225 Optimax, 6" JP, and 27" Tempest Plus Prop. It sits about 6-1/4" above the transom and Top End is 73.5 MPH (GPS) @ 5600 RPM's (Obviously, the cooler weather in Canada must have been helping out Marc - It's hot and humid in South Alabama - Robs HP)
Without knowing where you are currently set-up, I'd still say try raising your engine. Mine doesn't begin to chime until about 69 MPH. With a 4 blade prop, I'd think you'd be able to go even higher than I am....although, you may find a 25 is not enough and may need a 26" Trophy.
The other thing to consider might just be good 'ol fashioned seat time. If you are new to High Performance Bass boats, you just may need a little experience handling the chine. Once you get the hang of it...it's hard to make it chine.

Marshall you've just made me realize something. The fastest speeds I've gone with my TR20 was late in the fall in the cool water, 1 ft chop..light load ( half a tank is a lot less weight) a little headwind..and no tournament partner's lunch on board!!.by the way, I was spinning a 25 4 blade Trophy.
On another note, I now have a 21X with an Evinrude 225 HO ( 27 in Trophy) on it and last week on the Lowrance X19 graph, I hit 75.7mph on GPS..alone, but full tournament load ( no lunch)a little chop..again..5 1/2 in above transom..NO CHINE WALK at all..or maybee as you say Marshall, the seat time is starting to kick in and I dont even notice anymore.
I hope Raymond fixed the problem..nothing like a little fiddlin' with jackplate height and more time on the water.
cheers,
Marc

Marc and Marshall,
I appreciate your respone to Raymond because I am having the same problem. I bought a 2004 Tr20x with a 225 Optimax on it. I have a 6 inch jack plate and a 26 pitch Trophy Plus. If you measure the height of adjustment from the top of the jack plate bracket mounted on the transom to the top of the adjustable component, then it is set up at 5 and 1/2 inches and it chine walks severely at 62mph. I guessing my RPMs are about 5600 WOT. My question is, did I measure the height correctly and do the blow by holes in the prop affect this problem. Initially, I did not have any rubber groumets in the holes cast in the prop and my hole shot was terrible. When I put the groumets in to restrict the exhaust, my hole shot improved. I was plannning to put solid plugs in to make the hole shot even faster and wondered whether this interferes with raising the jackplate to resolve the chine walking. Other than this problem, I love the boat.

I have a '98 Ranger 518SVS, it is 19ft. with a VMax 200. I have 25p Tempest Plus 3 blade prop with the rubber gromets and a 6in jack plate. I am not real sure how to measure how high it is sitting. But my problem is that my boat starts chine walking at about 65 GPS. I've had my boat up to 72 GPS. But it walks bad. What are some things I can check and adjust.

I just bought a new tr20x with the Mercury 225 optimax and I am not getting a severe chine until around 70 mph on the gps. My last boat was a stratos and it was pretty easy to drive so now I am learning an entire new beast. I have heard that you should pull the wheel to the left first but it is a little hairy at times and the first thing I really want to do is trim it down. Any sugggestions?
