SUBJECT: TR186 Setup
Submitted by Frred W (166.102.15.1) from ARKANSAS on
I have a 04 TR186 with a Johnson 150 (Carbed) with a 24" Raker. It gps's at 59mph @ 5200 rpm. It has a 6" Pro Hi Jacker jack plate. I was wondering if anyone out there has the same setup and if not what can I do short of changing the prop. I have adjusted it up about 3/4" from where it orriganally started at. The folks from the shop say to leave it there. It chinewalks pretty bad it trimmed up all the way. Thats the only way I can get the RPMs up that high. According to Johnson Motors this motor redlines at 5500. BassBoat Central has this engine listed but has no data for the height over transon.
If anyone has any ideas on how to reduce the chinewalking or to get more proformance out of this boat, please let me know..
Thanks
Although, the changes from the 18 to the 186 were supposed to help reduce Chine. As you probably know, Tritons like the engine high on the Transom. If you have a water pressure guage, I wouldn't worry about what the folks from the shop say. Raise it up a little at a time until you begin to see a the water pressure drop below recommended or you raise it up and get no gain in RPM's or Speed. Then lower it back down an 1/8" or so. That should put you at the right point.
If I remember right, my XR6 was about 4-1/2" above transom. I was getting good water pressure and probably could have still gone higher. Although, you will notice that the higher you go, the less it chine, but the slower it is out of the hole. At some point you'll have to make a decision about what you are after more (Hole-Shot or Top End).
Just my opinion.
