SUBJECT: Water in bilge area
Submitted by tr186ky (68.18.66.61) from KENTUCKY on
I have a 2002 TR-186 with a 175 EFI Merc. I just replaced my two trolling motor batteries due to one having a dead cell and leaking. That is what brought the following to my attention. I noticed that the bilge was holding water. After draining it I noticed that it had some battery acid in it, hence the replacement of the batteries. After cleaning it out with baking soda/powder and water and letting dry I was ready to go. I fished both days this past weekend. Sunday evening I check the bilge area, specifically the batteries to ensure all was well, and I notice quite a bit of water in the bilge. Not enough to use pump on bit still enough to drain out for several minutes. I also noticed that the battery trays had water in them. I checked it and the best I can tell it is plain water. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this normal? I know I get some backwash when stopping but seems a little excessive. By the way, the cooler was empty.
thanks
good luck,
