SUBJECT: Pro Cat purchase help

Submitted by WannaCat (67.190.154.156) from FLORIDA on

Hey guys, I'm new here but have read almost all the posts on this board. I'm in the market for a 26'-28' Cat with a cuddy/WA.
I've been looking at them all and I understand that some of them have gone out of business too.
I did a sea trail on a ProKat 2660 last week in Ft. Myers and it was a cold windy day but the cat performed better then I had expected.
We could kick it up to around 40-45 mph in 2-3' seas without even spilling my soda on the dash.
The big problem I have is the price so I'm looking at some older cats.
I found a 2001 ProKat 26'WA with a upper control station, twin yamaha 150's.
It had got hit by lightning and has been completly rewired with all new electronic etc.
My real question is-
#1 do you think having a upper control station/flying bridge will make a 26' boat with a 8'-6" beam too top heavy?
#2 Do you think the 150's are big enough or should I be looking for 200's?
Does anyone else have this model that could speak up?
It's also around 35K which is better then 100K.
It doesn't seem like many of you check out this site much but I hope someone does.
I will also be looking for other guys in my area to fish with when I move down there for good next summer (i.e. Punta Gorda Fl.)

I guess theirs not many of you on this board much because of the lack of responces. It doesn't matter anymore as I bought the cat listed above and it's awesome. The 150 Yammi's do great with a top speed of around 40+. Having the flying bridge is great and although it does add a bit of weight to the top side, it handles perfectly. I love my new cat! Happy fishing guys and see you out there someday.

It doesn't show how long ago your post was made, but I'm now in the same situation you were; looking at a 26 or 28' Kat or World Cat. What have you learned from other cat owners since you got your boat? Any reason (s) that you wish you'd have got the 28? There seems to be more of them for sale and the weight isn't more than 200 pounds difference.
