On Sunday, we took our boat down to ClearWater Marine Supply in Tuckerton to have some repairs done to the gelcoat. Some time over the winter, a hole about the size of a silver dollar appeared on the port side just at the water line. Hope they can match the paint after they're done. Also having them fix the upper deck steering hydrolic line. Fluid blew out all over my wife's blazer. NOT a happy camper. Hope that it was be done soon. At least it's down the shore. Frank

Frank, I'm curious as to what would cause a hole the size of a silver dollar to just appear. Did Clearwater have an explanation? Being close to the water line, is it possible a fitting belongs there?

The gelcoat man didn't look at it while I was there. He is to call me with an estimate. It looked like an egg shell looks after being hit once. Indented and cracked gelcoat like it had been hit with a hammer about the size of a silver dollar.
I'll post what the man says after he calls with the price.
Thanks for asking.

Most likely they left an air bubble between the gelcoat and first layer of glass laminate. Not a big deal to fix as long as there isn't a whole slue of them. If the guy is any good with gelcoat it shouldn't be tough to match. He should also check the hull for any more of them.
I had buddy with Key West that was sent back to the factory twice for this. Must of had 30 dime sized ones in the deck. I found allot of them with the plastic hammer I use to sound a hull.
