SUBJECT: Sandies runnin' on Grapevine Lake!

Submitted by Waterwoman (216.62.112.167) from TEXAS on

Went fishing with my hubby and my dad Monday & Tuesday. Went to Grapevine Lake and caught a mess of 'em!! SO much fun! Monday I caught 23 Sandbass and turned around and caught the exact same amount on Tuesday! On Tuesday I caught the fist 2 fish in the boat before the guys..and later caught the 2 biggest of the day! I used the same thing on both days: Shallow diver shad patterned small crankbait, clear topwater popper, clear torpedo, and one of my favorites..a small 1/4 ounce rattletrap silver/ blue crome..I also used a green small jig, but, it didn't do as well..but still got 2 or3 on it. I gotta tell ya that I hooped and hollard when I got those two big ones and everybody in the other boats around(all men) were staring.. or glaring at me when I raised my big fish out of the water glistening in the sun! My fishing pole was bent way over.. but I raised it up high enough that they all saw. On one occasion..I had one on and I had hooked him so bad that I had to have my husband's help to get it off cause I was afraid I'd hurt it cause I had a treble hook in him good and had already tugged a bunch on it, anyway, when he got the fish off it squirmed and jumped out of his hands and fell right into my open unzipped purse! We were lookin' for that fish for a couple seconds before I saw my purse down by the cooler wiggling around and I said a couple choice words to my husband about it while he laughed and took his time getting 'ol slimey outta there! Yuck! My change purse smelled really ripe after that..but it was worth it and I wasen't mad at my hubby after that..I laughed too, but zipped up my purse! Later, I was glad that I had zipped it cause I had an almost exact happening an hour later and my husband joked an said I needed to open up my purse fish catcher! "I need a little help gettin' this one in the boat, hand me your purse" ha ha..ok..jokes over. They laughed and so did I. That's ok. But, I'm really glad we found that fish when we did..it would have been a really strange scene if I had later found it while at the checkout counter of Tom Thumb! Picture this: Yes, I have my reward card and oh...a Sandbass. Eeewww! That would have brought on some strange looks I'm sure.
