SUBJECT: S&W 1000 question??

Submitted by Smokin Joe from ALABAMA on

Does anyone know the going price of a Smith & Wesson, Model 1000, 12ga shotgun? Vented rib,26" improved cylinder barrel, in an as new condition. Pretty gun and light as heck.

  1. mks (152.163.100.196) from VIRGINIA says 1000 smith &wesson
you don't see them very often might try gunbroker.com i would say around 350 they are not as popular as the 1100 remington but they were a great shotgun

  2. Phantom from TEXAS says Joe, I'd say mks is pretty close.
Being a fixed choke gun will make it drop some in value vs. what other semi's would sell for. Also, that particular gun doesn't like cheap ammo (Winchester "Super Speeds" for one) so some of the specials on dove shells may not be good for you. Unlike the newer Berettas and Benellis, that gun will have to be cleaned more often also. The good thing here is that, for a fixed choke gun, the choke is the best all around.

  3. Smokin Joe from ALABAMA says I would have thought it would have been a "Classic".
What ever classic means. I didn't think there were made but two or three years and that was 15 or 20 years ago, wasn't it. The last I heard you could still get parts for them from some place in Texas, I think.

I have one in like new condition and am thinking about selling it, being as my health doesn't allow me to hunt any more.

  4. Phantom from VIRGINIA says Smokin Joe.....is it a 12 or 20?
Ive had my eye out for a nice little 20 for the dove patch, the Smith wouldn't be my first choice but it's still a nice gun.

  5. Smokin Joe from VIRGINIA says Phantom, It's a 12--Look at my first post again.

  6. Phantom from TEXAS says Oops....but in my own defense...
your first post is unclear as to whether you are buying or selling, I failed to reread it after seeing post #3.

    Phantom

  7. Smokin Joe from ALABAMA says Read your first post again too, Phantom.
Contrary to your experience. I remember I had no problem shooting "Dove" loads in all three major brands in it. Even a few reloads, I had assembled with 3 1/4oz equv. load, with 1 1/8oz shot.

It has less problems, than with an older 1100 Remington I also have, which I consider to be a no problem gun. I guess it all depends on chamber sizing with autos.

The 1100 is for sale too. Field grade, with 26"IC and 28" Mod, VR barrels. I think 8/9 cosmetic appearance and blue shows no wear. If anyone is interested, email "bjkimb@bellsouth.net". I can send pictures.

  8. ParDner (65.54.98.168) from VIRGINIA says Don't argue with Phanny.

He knows everything there is to know about shotguns. Anything that you know that is contrary to what he knows is unimportant. . .and remember that! Grinnn.

  9. Phantom from VIRGINIA says LOL! This coming from the same guy..
that categorizes wind, water temperature and time of day as structure.

    What a maroon!

  10. ParDner (65.54.97.204) from VIRGINIA says Glad you read it Phanny

Now, if you could only understand it, you'd be head and shoulders above the insest of your soul.

  11. Jeff (198.67.0.223) from INDIANA says S&w 1000 12ga take-down
I have a S&W 1000 12 ga that was given to me by my father. Upon giving it a good cleaning I found a tar like substance between the magazine spring washer and the flat washer below the gas piston. I suspect that this was once a rubber washer of sorts. Can anyone provide a diagram of the parts or tell me what it should look like? Thanks, Jeff
