SUBJECT: kids driving boats

I agree with with patience and experience kids can learn to drive boat easily. We started out with a small jonboat and my son learned at 6 years old all about it. We even taught him how to dock it, the reason for teaching him so young is that if there were an emergency and I or my husband was with him alone and unable to drive the boat back for help he could do this and get the help needed. I will never forget the time he just turned 7 and my husband sat beside him while he drove the boat on the trailer, got alot of looks from people like we were crazy, but he drove it on perfectly! Two years after the jonboat we bought a 16ft bassboat and he has learned his way around this boat. My husband lets him pull it up to the boat ramps and put it on the trailer, which made me nervous the first time but he put it straight on without any problems. Even though he knows what he is doing, because of his age he is not allowed to drive or put the boat on the trailer without another adult in the boat.
