SUBJECT: Bulk Spinnerbait wire in coils

Submitted by ukey28 from NEW YORK on

The spinnerbaits I'm making require wire form sizes much different than what is offered commercially. I think I could cut down on waste by buying coiled spinnerbait wire and cutting to the lengths I need before bending. My question is how does the wire come off the coil is it in a circle or curve? If I cut a piece 6 3/8" long how much arc is in it or would i get an arc of a circle with say a 12 inch diameter? Is there a quick way to straighten it? Any experience?
Thanks,
Frank

  1. BIGFLAT #11297 from LOUISIANA says I used coiled wire
back in mid 70's when I first started making my own spinner baits. Its all that I knew was available. From a 12" or so coil, there will be a slight curvature to the finished bait. I personally don't think it will make a huge difference. I suggest you get a small coil of salt water leader wire and try that. The package will have the wire diameter on the package. Good luck...BF

  2. 1SG from ALABAMA says no memory on coils
the bulk wire I have seen was not coiled tight enough to cause memory. It sprang out straight.

  3. ukey28 from NEW YORK says Thanks 1SG & BigFlat
Appreciate the feedback, I think I'm going to try it. Not big enough to order a 1000 custom forms...yet!

  4. 1SG from VIRGINIA says hagens catalog

    page 104 of their catalog.

  5. Emeshi (71.34.201.20) from NEBRASKA says Coiled wire
go to the craft store and the beading department, they have memory wire that is used to make necklaces, bracelets and rings. believe me, it will not uncoil and will not rust.
