SUBJECT: how do you keep a Smithwick suspender from waterlogging

I dont see any cracks in it, but it seems to fill up with water. Is there a sealant or something that I can put on the areas where the eyelet come out of the bait

Try a small amount of epoxy. It's probably easier to just get a new one though. -

It seems to happen frequently with them. I usually have to keep a few of them tied up and keep switching to let em dry out. The epoxy may work, might have to try it. -

turfy: Before you fish one, put your mouth around each hook hanger and the eye. See if you can suck any air from around them. (So you don't hook yourself, take the hooks off of the bait first!) If so, they are leaking. A little Super Glue will solve the problem. I've had the same problem from one of my favorite Rat-L-Traps.Jeff Hahn
