    A lesson in irony
from Hutch #10968 #10968
6/18/2012 2:17:48 PM

  A lesson in irony.

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing the greatest amount of free meals and food stamps ever.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us to "Please Do Not Feed the Animals."

Their stated reason for the policy is because the animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves.

This ends today's lesson

Same irony: Government that forbids reading the Bible in schools from Oneeyedjack #13663 #13663  6/18/2012 3:38:11 PM
But encourages reading the Bible in prisons.

Jesus admonished us to feed the poor... from Brad  6/18/2012 6:10:08 PM
Nevermind... You wouldn't understand the motive of a benevolent government that takes seriously its obligation to the general welfare of its citizenry.

One in 5 children in this country benefits from your evil food stamps--

Just because your personal morality is so debased that that you don't believe in feeding hungry children doesn't mean they will go hungry--Thank God for food stamps!

BTW, poor people AREN'T ANIMALS, they were made in the image of who....?

Big words from an admitted athiest from JohnM  6/18/2012 6:52:59 PM
Hopefully prayers have been answered. As for the government feeding the poor I'd rather he has a decision in who receives his money.

What Bradiot would think that we would not help those who COULD NOT help themselves? Oh yes, Bradiot!

Preach to us Bradiot from GITTHENET  6/18/2012 7:40:14 PM
You hypocrite! Why don't you tell these guys over here how you drop a 20 on the homeless person all the time. You big spender you!

liberals are stealing from the poor from MikeF  6/18/2012 7:55:17 PM
Every dime the liberals use for people who should be taking care of themselves is money we could be spending to help the poor.

Socialism has failed; we need to get rid of the socialists, like obama, and take back America.

And while we're talking about stealing let's not forget all of the money being spent on "green companies" that just happen to be owned by friends of obama.

What is wrong with a nudge from Skipper  6/18/2012 8:52:57 PM
To tell someone they need to figure out how to feed their self?

You know if you keep feeding them and keep them dumb and helpless what good are you doing.

gross income inequality is keeping working Americans from being able to fend for themselves.. from Brad  6/18/2012 10:01:50 PM
You royalty worshippers have absolutely no problem heaping EVERY economic advantage right back to the winners! When are you people going to understand that the wealth of a nation must be accessable to all?!

What is it about the reality of the of hardship middle America is facing that makes you people want to continue policies that advantage the already wealthy?? If tax breaks created jobs you wouldn't betch about the current unemployment rate! If tax breaks for the wealthy trickled down, the 1% wouldn't have seen their income increase by 275% while one hundred and fifty million Americans saw their income shrink!

The logic that you people ascribe to is so convoluted, i don't know where to start...

The ONLY way to turn this economy around is if people have money to spend--food stamps do more to stimulate the economy than all of the trillions people like romney have stashed in tax-free offshore accounts. FACT!

EVERY dollar spent in foodstamps keeps the local economy afloat- the worse our economy gets, the more valuable foodstamps, welfare, SSI, pensions are to the local economy.

We live in an era when the fortunate 500 are sitting on an incredible amount of capital--instead of making major investments in techonology or advancements in energy independence or myriad of other benefits to society, they choose to sit back and let Americans spiral into a depression--They are literally watching America go broke right before your eyes and you royalty worshippers are so ideologically driven to protect royalty, you can't muster a single FRICKING word of condemnation-

even as you clear out your spare bedroom!

I'm talking to you

Monticello from JohnM  6/18/2012 10:30:21 PM
Income inequality.......it's ALWAYS been a part of our culture and it always will be as long as it's America.

think EVERYONE lived like that back then or was he the 1%?

Fair is where from Skipper  6/18/2012 10:43:38 PM
You buy cotton candy and funnel cakes. There is nothing in life that's fair.

Brad from Papafins  6/19/2012 10:11:43 AM
You being a non believer and using Jesus name is laughable, go back and read some of your anti religous posts.

The numjber you stated one in five children in the U.S. benefits from food stamps is probably correct as their mother are probably getting ADC for eight or nine children by six or seven guys, plus the food stamps and she lives better than those of us who work hard for what we have.

Bradley, my heart and my checkbook tell me that I care about the poor! from Oneeyedjack #13663 #13663  6/19/2012 10:12:43 AM
I've tried to make it clear that its the bums, slackers, and takers that we should not be supporting.

My wife and I have plenty of personal experience trying to help the "less fortunate", that we don't have to make up pithy anecdotal stories about the poor starving children.

I'm not talking about a bunch of ballyhooing over how I believe my tax dollars ought to be spent on this or that group. This is not a case of stopping off to give one of those "I will work for food" guys a couple of bucks.

No, we have opened our home and our pocket book on many occasions and almost every case these were hard learned lessons. I've spent over 40 years in church work, and have dealth with hundreds of "needy cases". In all that time, I can recall two times where the recipient returned a simple thank you card or call.

We certainly have poor and low income families in our country. Most of them don't want a handout! All they want is respect and opportunity. They have that from me!

But what our misguided government handout programs have done in my lifetime is to create a generation that is sitting around on their backside waiting to feed them. THAT IS LEARNED BEHAVIOR!!!!

And in case you aren't picking up on this; it is the original point of this thread.

Sorry about this guys, but Brad: from remmy  6/19/2012 11:38:42 AM
Go to hell.

Absolutely Oneeye! from GITTHENET  6/19/2012 11:52:33 AM
And too you are referring to the true needy and Brad refers to the wanting, or as we've come to label more appropriately, the "entitled".

If one compares Brad's perspectives to those who claim to be OWS Protestors, they are exact in that they place a value of themselves more valuable than the value society, or more specificly, the value Corporate America has assigned to them. And, as a recent teacher atempted to tell his graduating class, and was ridiculed for it, "you're not special".

Brad is the perfect example of this redicoulus, self centered, movement. For better understanding, Brad is an upper 50s, life long, manufacturing employee. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that career path however, all who aspire, or should I say, only aspire, to that path as a career, must understand the limits of income for that decision.

Obviously, Brad, and the millions like him, do not, and thus they equate their want of income, to those who advance themselves either via hard work, dedication, or continued education. And thus, as a result, you have those, like Brad, who are envious and jealous of success, and are now expecting government to step in, and level in their eyes, the playing field, or at least the outcomes. They want government to do for them what they are UNWILLING to do for themselves.

In addition, you have those who did educate themselves however, because of their limited, mental attitudes, restricts them from advancing and they too are those within the "entitled"...

As the Peter Principle indicates, everyone will be promoted to their highest level of incompetence. And those within this category, are unable to be truthful with themselves, unwilling to recognize their shortcomings, and address for themselves.

What was a society of selfish, self centered, children, have now grown into an entire generation of "entitled", lazy, envious adults. They justify their behaviour by claiming they want income equality for everyone, when really, they only care about income equality for themselves.

Example of opportunity for the poor. Caution, true story. from Oneeyedjack #13663 #13663  6/19/2012 12:19:56 PM
In my first career, I was working as a Machinist/Toolmaker for a local defense contractor. As a second job, I was moonlighting for an engineer to start up a small machine shop. We needed another helper, and I talked the owner into hiring a guy who had been a janitor for an older established shop in town. This guy, who was 33 at time and could not read or write, was working for below minimum wage sweeping floors.

I had known him to be a had worker who always showed up and was very mechanically inclined, but because he could not read, had always been held back. After a few weeks of watching my setups and operations, he became a terrific worker. After a few months, I taught him how to read prints and do his own set up work.

Make a long story short - he worked for that owner for over 30 more years, becoming the plant supervisor, and retiring with a nice middle class home and retirement.

He was poor, came from a poor side of town, could not read or write, but never received one cent of welfare or handout. All he wanted was an opportunity and he wasn't looking to the government to give it.

"want of income?" from Brad  6/19/2012 12:37:49 PM
i couldn't tell you within 5K how much money i made last or any other year for that matter--

That tells you exactly how deep my personal "want of income" really is, doesn't it?

you are a pompass ass for making such an assertion to a man who actually WORKS for a living!

unlike YOU-

Here's the TRUTH--if you don't actually WORK for your living, you are nothing but a SCAMMER who has figured out how to tap into another man's labor and productivity for your own personal income. That's akin to welfare, but nobody will admit it. I see it everyday...

Speaking strictly for myself, i have worked for everything i have and i'm damn proud of that fact!

Brad by your logic, Obama from DaveT  6/19/2012 2:24:46 PM
should have just spent that 870 billion he wasted in stimulus money on Food Stamps. Like said above, I doubt any one on this board does not want to see the truly needy helped out. The BIG difference betweem the Gov taking money, and someone giving someone a helping hand. Is the Gov takes the money from the tax payers, and spends it how it see fit. When you give someone something, it comes from free will giving, not Gov theft.

   You're a liar Brad from GITTHENET  6/19/2012 5:29:49 PM
for if you didn't envy everyone who has accomplished more, were more successfull or obtained more wealth, you'd never post the drivel you do.

And being a lifelong union employee, you know not of work....

Be careful, that stupid limb is weakening....again...

if you weren't so... from Brad  6/19/2012 6:42:04 PM
Self-centered you would understand that some people genuinely care about the less fortunate. In case no one has informed you of this, you are empathically retarded. You are psychologically adverse to putting yourself in some one elses place and therefore view everyone elses plight through your judgemental lense.. You are not alone. This is an affliction that has a hold of the majority of the human population, exclusive to the conservative mindset.

It's why you vote for a party that you know will hurt the poor--even as you can't tell us ONE good thing they have done for working families..

It's why you can be so easily talked into sending our bravest and most willing defenders into a wars that never made any sense.. (not the SLIGHTEST concept of the human suffering that would surely follow, nor remorse for the human tragedy that has taken place)

It's why YOUR president bulsh could literally hand over 800 BILLION tax dollars to the banksters and you folks had NOT A WORD OF OBJECTION..

It's why you choose the party that voted for an extention of unemployment for the distressed ONLY if they extended tax breaks for the rich who don't need them...(royalty worshipping??)

BTW, i have spent over two years afloat on the open Pacific Ocean. As i wind down a stellar career in a highly technical field i will walk away KNOWING that i gave much more than i ever recieved. Trust me, i envy no man.

I just want more people to share the wealth a little more compassionately in this land of plenty.

I've always got a little more than i need..

Brad for someone to share in the wealth from DaveT  6/19/2012 6:55:02 PM
they must work for it first. Then they will.

   afloat from eaba #16919 #16919  6/19/2012 10:30:33 PM
I guess he was floating, but you know what floats. Go cry to someone who will listen to your "floating stuff."

   Blah-Blah-Blah from GITTHENET  6/20/2012 9:51:53 AM
More drivel we've all heard from you many times before... You're worse than a broken record, Brad, for we could throw the broken record away and be rid of the problem...

By your own admission, your "genuine care and compassion" ends at an occassional, and I suspect, rare hand out of a $20. And, I'd be willing to bet, if we were able to compare your contributions to anyone reading this drivel, you'd be quite embarrassed of your lack of "compassion or genuine care". Your idea of "compassion and geniune care" requires your governement to do the bidding for what you're too lazy or unwilling to do.

And in your constant ranting about the wars, you fail to acknowledge, or worse, even admit, that it was your own democtrats who too voted for the wars. And more importantly, your democrats who after obtaining majorities, voted to continue.

And too, in your obvious hate for Bush, maybe because of your considerable ignorance, you never acknowledge that it was your democrats who had majority control of both senate and congress at the time, where all bills of spending originate, who voted for the $800 TARP bail out. So tell us Bradiot, why did the majority of your democrats vote for TARP and not block it when they had majority control? Better yet, why was there not an attempt to repeal it by Obama on January 20th when he became president? Obviously because your democrats and Obama were complicit. Somehow in your twisted, liberal mind, you believe Bush behaved like Obama and surpassed the congress and senate on the TARP spending? More importantly, only an idiot would believe that a political party, or especially any politician, would care more about the middle class or any private citizen. Blow it our your rear... You'd think your ignorance would eventually embarrass you...

As I stated above, and as you continue to demonstrate, you're the perfect example of what I described above... Only an idiot would claim he works harder, or is more generous and caring, than those who he has no knowledge or understanding of. That stupid limb just broke.

And why do you think spending time alone, afloat, on the Pacific ocean means anything? You think that makes you a bigger man? Geeeeeeshhhhhh, Bradiot! Give us a break... What's next? You going to whip out your weenie and claim you can pee further?

I would tell you to grow up Brad, but the reality is you are. Well at least, physically that is.

Edited 6/20/2012 10:34:21 AM

   Give Brad a break from RickA #14814 #14814  6/23/2012 5:00:57 PM
Brad, like so manhy other liberals, is caught up in some movie in his brain and can't snap out of it to observe reality in its starkness.

Some of the plot elements to this movie are conservatives are all evil and stingy, the poor are all unfortunate and are victims, that capitalism is evil and failing, that there is an inherent right to take money from others to spend where you want because you are a better person than those you take money from, that successful businessmen are criminals, that democrats are the saviors of the world.

I feel sorry for his and others delusions. They typically pay no attention to history and thus do not learn. They parrot what other liberals say like a mantra that puts them in a kind of stupor. They are slow to realize their idols are false.

Pity them all.
