Hang in there Buddy. I will take Urban's side here. He stood up for his player.

Spikes was provoked by those dirty old dawgs and was showing his street cred. Good for him. Meyer noticed that Lane Kiffin has bonded with Lil Wayne and is trying to keep up with the future of recruiting. "Thugs R Us" will be the new NCAA Football motto. Spikes' "first half" suspension is a middle finger salute from Urban to the critics. Lord help the poor Vandy QB when the 2nd half begins and this wild animal is let out of his cage. I hope that boy has one of those insurance policies.

Spikes behavior was just indicative of the type of person he is. There is no good excuse for Meyers not to do something about it, if winning is everything then something is missing.

Why ya always picking on PPEN, Hvac? from Bucket  11/4/2009 10:20:20 AM

Let the fella enjoy his college football, why don't ya?

Urban is gonna have to straighten up and fly right when he goes to Notre Dame. Touchdown Jesus won't give him near as much leeway.

OK, here's how it is. from PPEN  11/4/2009 2:04:06 PM
College football amongst the top 25 teams is not a visit to the little kids day care center. I don't condone what Spikes did but I would suggest to all of you that you look hard at what goes on in those big piles of over-vitaminized football players, Also look at the vicious tackling which occurs. Those full speed hits on a receiver who is trying to catch the high thrown passes are aimed at hurting the player so as to get him out of the game. If you believe otherwise you just have not watched the games very closely.

The intentional go-for-the-kill hits on QB's is so glaringly obvious that the intent is to get the QB out of the game. If you believe otherwise you are, again, not paying attention.

Again, I do not like what Spikees tried to do. Any action which intentionally might cause life altering changes to another player is totally out of line. Punishment for this should be severe and immediate. Given the extent to which Spikes' level behavior is currently being allowed though causes me to think Spikes' 1/2 game punishment is reasonable and appropriate.

When the officials start punishing this behavior as it occurs by ejecting the player(s) from the game we will see an immediate improvement in the players' actions. The various athletic programs must make it abundantly clear that this crap is not allowed. I truly believe that the head coaches, their staff and the AD's have been viewing the intentional actions aimed at getting the opposing players out of the game as being bad... with a wink and a nod. I further believe that the head coach and the AD must be held accountable for the actions of the players. Anybody think this will cause a change in the on-the-field actions of the players? My guess is that if this change is made there would be an immediate change in how the game is played and the change will be a reduction in injuries to players and a reduction in called penalties for excessive behavior.

So that's what old PPEN says. Pick it apart if you can.

Bucket, you are just clueless sometimes. from hvacstar  11/4/2009 8:20:11 PM
I was providing cover for PPEN. I laid (if this post is altered I will hire Johnny Cochran to sue somebody) out an extreme and outrageous view. This allowed PPEN to step in and deliver his wise, evenhanded, and accurate reply. He had been silent on this subject before.

When I grow up, I want to be like PPEN.

I guess it was the extreme and outrageous that threw me from Bucket  11/4/2009 9:08:03 PM

You're generally so measured in your views.

agree with Paul from MikeF  11/5/2009 7:43:22 AM
There has to be reasonable limits; I know the saying is: that's why girls don't play the game but this isn't being played on a street in the ghetto and there's no place for dirty players and thugs.

if you don't stop with the PPEN praise I am likely gonna try walkin on water and, being as the water here in Florida don't freeze, I'm gonna drown and it will all be your fault. What a terrible thing to live with.

PS. Never the less, Hvacstar, I thank you for your kindness and I do know how to swim.
