I'm going to post several so bare with me here. Here's the map site again, you'll need it if this is going to make any sense. If you bring the map up click twice to magnify it (+). Then drag the map to the left a little until you see the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs come into view. Many of these shots were taken from their property looking down Garden of The Gods Rd which shows on the map as well. The place where I was taking pictured from is about 2 blocks north and west of my house.

This was yesterday afternoon from Dr. Phyl  6/26/2012 1:40:53 PM

the big plume of smoke is coming off the west end of the fire between Manitou and Cascade. At thaty time there was a light breeze from the southeast.

This morning from Dr. Phyl  6/26/2012 1:42:51 PM

This is a shot from the center of town with a wind from the west. The smoke from the fire is going straight up then drifting down over where the other pictures are taken from.

More of the first one. from Dr. Phyl  6/26/2012 1:44:16 PM

Typically you can see the bluff behind my house and UCCS from here.

From UCCS from Dr. Phyl  6/26/2012 1:46:48 PM

this is later in the morning and the wind has picked up and is now from the south carrying the smoke towards the north. The plume on the left is not quite the south edge of the fire.

Panning further north from Dr. Phyl  6/26/2012 1:50:44 PM

This is smoke off the east edge of the fire where it is mostly back burning right now and seems to not be coming east. You might be able to see the housing in the foothills below. There is one and in some places two ridges between the fire and the downslope where the homes are.

Further north from Dr. Phyl  6/26/2012 1:53:31 PM

Thid is the northern edge of the east side of the fire right now. With the wind shift and speed increase this will undoubtedly be a trouble spot as the day goes on. This is one of the areas getting repeated drops of slurry.

A little further north from Dr. Phyl  6/26/2012 1:55:34 PM

and more homes on the edge of the hill. There is active fire up and over that ridge line.

Last one from Dr. Phyl  6/26/2012 1:57:36 PM

Looking further north if the smoke wasn't there you would be looking at Air Academy land and a few d their admin buildings.

5200 acres now from Dr. Phyl  6/26/2012 2:33:25 PM
with another going in the east central part of the state they say is over 38,000 acres.

That is some beautiful from Sammy #10958 #10958  6/26/2012 3:12:19 PM
country getting scorched. But I guess thru the milleniums this is mother nature doing her thing. Except for the idiot campers and such helping out.
