    The prayers are working folks
from Dr. Phyl

yesterday afternoon we had a short rain come through from the west that almost covered the entirety of the land affected by the fire. The only thing it brought winds gusting to 50 MPH as well but the good outweighed the bad. It was a pretty weird sight as it rained and turned to steam and smoke and drifted this way. It blotted out everything for a while and the ash that came down was really thick. I've got many many ashes in the yard half the size of a dollar bill. It's pretty hard to deal with when they say embers can travel 3/4 mile and have 60% success rate in starting another fire in the conditions we have. When the smoke blankets your part of town and you can't see but you can smell nothing but fire you have to wonder if it's something new closer by. Earnie is doing fine,,, his house stays very cool on it's own when it's closed up so he can stay out of the smoke and get along fine. There's times when he gets a little ansy not going out and pharking with someone but he's just fine. The wind was such last night that most of the town was without smoke and it made one of the first nights to sleep good. We are the lucky ones,,, at least we are in our own homes now. They say over 200 homes are gone so far. They are being real careful not to release any information on exact numbers/locations for now until they have exact addresses and such. I saw a couple of pictures from 2 of the neighborhoods and there are houses still standing with everything else burned to the ground around them. Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers.

Looks like you may... from Funky  6/28/2012 1:23:40 PM
have a few showers headed your way again this afternoon. That's good as long as it doesn't bring lightning with it. I heard on TV yesterday that embers blew over a mile across Rampart Reservoir and started a fire, which was then on a direct line to the main Air Force Academy campus. Fortunately they were able to contain it to several hundred acres near the NE side.

Stay safe Hank!

Thanks for the update from Crowbar  6/28/2012 2:17:11 PM
One of my inspectors that is from Colorado has friends that have/had? a place on or near the rim of Waldo Canyon coming down to stay with him. He talked with them this morning before they started down this way and said they had been staying in Pueblo and have no idea if they have a house to go back to. News down here is estimating 300 homes lost but my inspector's friend said he's guessing easily 1000 just from what he has seen.

Horrible situation. Prayers for more rain!

I drove around this morning and found a few places I could see through the telescope. It's impossible to find a place to see it all, or the heart of it because of the closures. But what I did see was simply amazing. There were places that earily resembles pictures of Hiroshima and within 50 feet there were homes and green pinion trees standing. I hope they didn't lose anything but it's really a crapshoot on what's left. The firefighters did and are doing a hell of a job saving property. Amazingly there have been no injuries to date.

I agree with your comment .......... from Wade Fisher  6/28/2012 2:36:19 PM
on what a job the fire fighters are doing Phyl. I was very impressed with the determination and plain grit the fire fighters here showed during the fires last year. I was also very impressed by the number of private citizens that gave their time to make sure the fire fighters had plenty of food, water, shower supplies, and clean cots to sleep on between their rotation on the line.

Butt then FEMA showed up and told the good citizens that they couldn't distribute the supplies they had. It was the governments responsibility to do that......Then it all went to shixt.

Everyone should say a little prayer for those who are fighting to save someone else's property.

Obama is sposed to be here tomorrow and there are high hopes from Dr. Phyl  6/28/2012 2:47:49 PM
he will blow it out. Never miss a photo op. I had to laugh when the Police Chief reported POTUS might be coming and that they told them great but bring you're own security, we don't have manpower to spare. Chit,,, they got firefighters and equipment from all the neighboring cities and the security is using the PD, Sheriff's Office, ATF, FBI, DEA, Officers from neighboring law enforcement agencies, etc. and they're still just managing.

Must be a ........... from Wade Fisher  6/28/2012 2:56:01 PM
campaign stop somewhere close Phyl. Pookie wouldn't waste his time going to Colorado unless there was some money in it for him.

Just whaqt you need, Doc. from Spinny  6/28/2012 3:22:46 PM
More pharkin' hot air!

Maybe his excellence from Cuejockey  6/28/2012 3:57:11 PM
will bring some Hotdogs from "The Varsity". Will probably make you pay for all that extra fuel for the C-130's.

Our Mayor from Dr. Phyl  6/28/2012 4:01:38 PM
is a real conservative Republican as is most of this community,,,, but he said yesterday that Obama called him direct and was really personable,,, wanting to know if there was anything he could do and if he was getting everything he needed. It actually sounded down to earth. Course this is,,,, the last I heard,,, a swing state.
