SUBJECT: # 17979: Hitting your 40's and needing bifocals.......

Submitted by Packman from OHIO on 7/17/2001 9:44:00 AM

Just wondering if any Lepers are at the age or have the need for bifocals? I think I'm about at that point.

I've worn glasses and then contacts for quite a few years and have always been near-sighted. Several years ago, about the time I hit 40 I started to having to extend my arm somewhat to read. It's getting worse so I probably need to decide on a option. According to my optometrist and this was a year or so ago I had several options. I could keep the contacts for seeing at a distance and go with a pair of reading glasses, or I could get a pair of contacts that I think have an outside ring for the bifocal but some people had trouble getting used to them. Or, I could wear one contact for seeing at a distance and the other for reading. Apparently, it takes awhile to get used to this but after awhile your mind gets trained. I looked into laser surgery but was told they couldn't correct both the near-sightedness and the need for bifocals.

I was just wondering if anyone else here wears bifocals or has tried the different contacts available and how they liked them? Anything else on the market that you've heard about? I may just opt for the reading glasses now and hope the laser surgery method gets advanced enough to correct both of my problems.

or you just plain stewpid!!LOL Placing your selfs on this page opening yourself up to major critisism because your getting to old to to bait a hook.

In my case since I'm much older that 40 (not much) is to opt for those 5.00 pairs or reading glasse that you don't care if you lose or not, then go for laser when the price comes down or insurance will cover, right now in TX it's about 900.00 per eye but have heard it is the only way to go...

    good luck

eyes not the first thing to go!!!

I think that's the term for our ailment. It seems to depend on the lighting of what you're trying to read.

I've been trying to strain my eyes in hopes of retraining the muscles.

women and you know how we talk about men.. well anyway, their thoughts and mine are men are sexy when they where those reading glasses. 1.. when you pull them out to read something we have handed you it shows you are really paying attention to us.. big point. 2.. it shows that you are old enough to be comfortable with yourself that you would wear them and not be sitting there trying to read something without them because you don't want people(women) to think your actually the age you are. Still trying to act cool. kind of like combing your hair from the back or from my your ear so no one will know your losing hair. (that's bad) hoped you followed this one! lol. 3. the best one I think... when you are wearing them a woman that finds you attractive is imagining taking them off to be able to run her hands thru your hair and from there she is imagining taking off your shirt button by button then slipping off your shirt ever so slowly as her hands slid down your arms. As your shirt falls to the floor she reaches for your belt buckle and starts to. I guess you get the idea now I have to go change.. GET THE GLASSES.. kiss kiss

    and thanks...

  5. 7/17/2001 10:16:00 AM Submitted by Packman from OHIO says I think...
Myopia is just the technical term used for being nearsighted which I've had since the 6th grade when I started wearing glasses because I had trouble seeing objects at a distance.

jj- I can still see to fish alright and we don't need magnifying glasses up north to make our fish look bigger like the folks down south. But, I guess those magnifying glasses come in handy for the southern women. LOL

  6. 7/17/2001 11:04:00 AM Submitted by jj/redoak from TEXAS says Packman .......I need dem glasses...
just to read the TV guide, or...sometimes just to find my beer...LMAO our southern gals are big enough not to need any seeing help.

    i really liked ms.maytags theory...

Radial Kemetory (sp)? its the operation to put controlled scars on the pupil to correct the lens. One of my cousins had it done about 10 yrs ago and threw away her glasses and contacts.

finding the good in a situation. Life is to short to worry about the small stuff. I like to turn it around to fun.. and there is soooo much more to spend money on than that kind of surgery where it is elective... kiss kiss

I am in my mid-forties and about a year ago my close up vision started to go. I was already near sighted and have worn glasses since about 4th grade. I never cared much for contacts, they always looked like too much trouble to me. The eye doctor prescribed what they call progressive lenses. I guess they are the modern day bifocal. If you look at my glasses you cannot tell they are bifocals, but I have never been able to adapt to them. I still find it easier that if I am doing something close up, it is easier to just take my glasses off. Good luck with your problem. I guess this is just something we have to find our own way of dealing with as we get older.
