Ray - sorry to hear about your problem, it's got to have you
totally frustrated. Unfortunately, every mass produced product is going to
have "bad runs". Take a look around at a repair shop - you'll
see every brand represented. If your problems are "out the box"
any of the outboard manufactures would stand behind their product,
especially Yamaha. Have you tried contacting Yamaha directly - sounds
like it's time to go over your dealers head. I've owned 4 Yamahas,
from 115hp to 200hp, I'm rigging up a 5th. Without knowing when & what
your first problem was, and how many you've had since then, my money's
on - you need a better dealer. Good luck...

Thanks for the input. In fact, the dealer gave me the number to call Yamama along with a POC. They gave me the company line.."we will repair in accordance with the warranty". Guess thats hard to argue with. This is my second Yamaha..first was great but that was few years back. I agree to a certain extent that maybe I was very unlucky..but since I have been relating my experiance on the web..I was surprised to read many horror storys about new yamahas. Even a guy working at the dealership told me he has seen engines with bad powerheads right out of the box..owell, you know what they say, spend your money and take your chances.

I have a 1999 VMAX and it is the best motor I have every owned. I have owned every major brand. I would not run another motor. The overall quality and workmanship is far beyond others.

I understand your frustration. I'm having to replace the second powerhead. Even more frustrating is I keep it in Gulf Shores in dry storage in Zekes Marina and have Coastal Marine work on it. I'm having to put out too much money for what this thing cost me. I have a brother and son who are diesel mechanic certified and have their own business (GDS Services). They fix anything that has a working component if you know what I mean and have a Federal Tax I.D. license and occupational license and we tried our best to buy the powerhead from Outboard Recycle, 7851 Crary Station Road, Semmes, AL 36575, 251-645-2050 and they wouldn't sell it to a diesel based marine service repair business. Doesn't that just get your gall? I offered them a check in advance for the powerhead but they were getting squeezed by another company who wanted to make the $3000 profit. Yamaha needs to stand behind their products!!!!!
