Color preference: Available in black or white

Size preference: Only comes one way.

Where does this product work best: This unit may only be used leagally from a boat that is in the water

When does this product work best: N/A

Any techniques or tips you want to include: This is a very good radio and if it suffers from anything its size. The current trend to miniturize electronics has found it way to VHF radios and while that is certainly good for applications where there is limited space available it has its drawbacks. The most noticalbe of these for the M-59 is the rather small knobs and buttons. To its credit the radio does have a rather large screen and it is quite easy to read. A feature has been added to this radio, and some other current ICOM's as well, that the new buyer would do well to do without. This is the automatic channel 16 feature that returns the radio the that channel when the mike is hanged up in its holder. The owner may elect not to hook this feature up but it has been reported that if the operator has wet hands and is holding the mike so that the back is being touched and then touches a grounded piece of metal at the same time the radio will go to channel 16. The only way to stop this from happening is to take the mike apart and disconnect the internal wire that comes from the cable and attaches to a metal plate on the mike's back cover, and then wrap the wire end in electrical tape - a fairly simple process. Overall this radio, which is at the high end of the price scale for similar items, is very well made and should last the new owner for years. The currnet price of the item ranges from about $240 to $270 at various mail-order discount houses.

Thanks for the help about the mike returning to 16. My radio has been doing that and its irratation as hell. I will fix that right away. Lots of times I am holding on to the T-top rail while talking and kind of palm the mike. Yep she will go to 16. Thanks Again, John Niesner
