SUBJECT: Tuna Charter Questions

I am new to the area - want to take my son & friends out to the canyons for tuna etc. Everyone tells me go to Montauk NY - is there any good reason to drive that far to a charter? How do the NJ charters compare in price and fish catching? What is the min size boat for a comfortable trip for 6 guys? Any other suggestions or things I should be considering? Thanks
